A Gothic castle built by Emperor Charles
IV in the years 1348 - 1357 to house relics and imperial, later also Czech
coronation jewels. In the interiors , the Chapel of the Virgin Mary and
St. Catherine´s Chapel with precious frescos and a portreit of the builder
are preserved in their original appearance. In the large tower the Chapel
of the Holy Rood ,consecrated in 1365 , adorned with pictures of saints by
Master Theodorik.

In the midst of deep forests is the impressive panorama of
royal Krivoklat Castle. It was founded in 1109. Premysl Otakar II,
one of the kings of the first Czech dynasty, annexed Krivoklat Castle and
its lands to the royal family and made the castle one of his official
seats in the 13th century .The king Vaclav IV, was passionately fond of
the castle and hunting in the surrounding forests was especially to his
liking. Under the king Vladislav Jagellonian Krivoklat was lent the Late
Gothic form it has retained until the present day. The castle was losing
its importance after fires in 1597 and 1643 , it suffered futher damage
during a fire in 1826.
